The next stage from San Roman to Melide started out along an old Roman road. Most of the day was on dirt roads and paths. Some of the forest plantations here are eucalyptus. It's easy to tell the cultivated forests: the trees are planted in straight rows like an orchard.
This was another longish day, 28 km. At the small city of Melide the Camino Primitivo we've been following since Oviedo ended, and joined the Camino Frances. Even though we knew what to expect, it still came as a bit of a shock to once again see pilgrims by the dozen. The albergue in Melide has 130 beds; we stayed in a little hotel. This area is known for pulperias (restaurants specializing in octopus), so we started our dinner with a plate. It was grilled in a peppery olive oil sauce, and delicious.
