Berducedo to Grandas de Salime, June 26

As we headed out from Berducedo early in the morning, the day was already heating up.  The forecast was for temps in the upper 80s.  We could see fog in valleys far below us, but we walked in full sun.

After about 5 km of rolling terrain we  passed through the small village of La Mesa, and then began a long, steep ascent along the road over this ridge.  Even though it was still early, we were cooking as we walked on the pavement.

After topping out on the ridge, we began our descent to the Embalse de Salime reservoir far below us.  Our path alternated between open and wooded.

Dan almost stepped on this snake (about a meter long) stretched out across the trail.  We don't think he was poisonous.

After about 14 km or walking we crossed the dam (background below), and started our climb up the other side of the valley.  We had several km here walking on the hot pavement before we were back on a wooded path for the final climb into the village of Grandas de Salime.  By the time we arrived in Grandas around 3 pm we were cooked.  We found a nice room in a small hotel, ate a full meal, and tried to stay cool for the rest of the day.
